Apple iPad: The FCC Dissects it So We Don't Have To

The FCC recently published photos of the internals of Apple's upcoming iPad due to be released tomorrow. In the original FCC document all of the chips in the device were covered with grey boxes, a little bit of Photoshop revealed what we wanted to see.
The initial details aren't all that surprising. The iPad is mostly screen and battery, the motherboard itself appears to be smartphone sized. The bulk of the cost of this device is in the display and the casing, which means Apple is making a killing off each device sold. It makes sense given that Apple had little interest in selling low margin netbooks, but this is a different story entirely.
The Apple A4 CPU you see above is bordered by a pair of Toshiba NAND flash chips. The ARM markings on the A4 should put to rest any rumors that this chip wasn't ARM based. We also see the same Broadcom I/O controller used on the iPhone/iPod Touch.
We're expecting the arrival of our iPad tomorrow, but luckily with the FCC's documents published we don't have to risk destroying ours to have a peek at the inside. More details coming!

Like it or not, SJobs just wants more of your money for things which he should have actually included within the product. Well, the HTC EVO 4G is a smartphone, and even that one has a mini-HDMI port!

"Good design means taking away everything that does not add toward the goal."I get the idea that you're the kind of person that enjoys the radio in your car, or that fact that it has A/C. The ability to adjust your seat or the extra padding and lumbar support it may have to make your time spent with it, more enjoyable. I don't want to argue, just simply prove a point that the bare minimum to get the job done, isn't something we want in an expensive extravagance like the iPad.

Does any one remember the old docking bays with the first generation of laptops? Even the iPhone/iPad, and NeXus have docking bays. There is no reason one cannot be design as an accessory. IMHO the "Pad" format with cloud storage is the next generation of Laptops. The CPUs will become faster, and with a docking station, we will have all the ports we need.Now before the flames start, I have 3 Mid-Towers, 2 running Linux, 1 Vista at the moment, I waiting for word on how stable Win 7 SP1. So I like Big Systems.
But the ability to carry something like a iPad and sync all my system in the cloud is appealing. However, I will wait for the Pad running Chrome OS.

well actually win7 is already very stable, and imho the "wait for sp1 for any new windows" scheme doesn't really apply for this one... I guess the only thing you need to worry about is compatibility, but seeing as how you already have vista I don't think it would be an issue.as for the Ipad, I really doubt it will replace laptops, at least with out a keyboard and having to type on the screen is a big nono for me (for work that is)

Its going to work like it did with the iphone. All these missing but obvious features will be available one by one in the coming iterations of the ipad. In my initial comments regarding the iPad, I had mentioned some of the things that prevent it from being a great device; most notably: the price and the lack of Flash amongst a few other technical hindrances.Historically, Apple tends to set a price and keep it, unlike Dell, where a device could cost $900 one day and $500 another.
This time I would like to say that I'm actually looking forward to the iPad. I'd like to see it do well and I can think up a lot of great uses that don't involve eBooks and especially not gaming, even if this device will exceed in both.
Anand, I'm curious to see what sort of test you come up with. In addition to performance, perhaps some natural light and screen quality testing?

Ipad starting $600 Hahahah because thats totally a Fair price seeing its two batteries and a circuit board the size of my phone *cough* Reused Itouch Board.

Because Apples greedy ass makes everything Proprietary so you have to buy an ADAPTER (Look at qoute 2 for less stuff less cost and less to go wrong on the adapter issue *cough*)

Or they use a netbook at which this is under the category and i agree with USB functionality and a Mini HDMI port.
Sorry but there is no way you can defend this P.O.S that costs almost the same damn price of a laptop...i mean seriously you are charging people for 4 Ipod Touched glued together. I got it! here is the next invention the I-mat, 4 ipads glued together so you can sleep on it and listen to your music! Hell you could play DDR!
