It should come as no surprise that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim launched with a whole host of bugs. Bethesda RPGs are renowned for their massive worlds, but with that size comes a greater propensity for stuff to just plain go wrong. Having been through this before, Bethesda started working on a major patch soon after release, and it looks like they're finally ready to deliver.

Wednesday’s patch, which has already gone live for PlayStation 3 users, is dubbed “Skyrim 1.2” and aims to fix a whole host of actual bugs. Here’s the full list of changes, straight from Bethesda:

  • Improved occasional performance issues resulting from long term play (PlayStation 3)
  • Fixed issue where textures would not properly upgrade when installed to drive (Xbox 360)
  • Fixed crash on startup when audio is set to sample rate other than 44100Hz (PC)
  • Fixed issue where projectiles did not properly fade away
  • Fixed occasional issue where a guest would arrive to the player’s wedding dead
  • Dragon corpses now clean up properly
  • Fixed rare issue where dragons would not attack
  • Fixed rare NPC sleeping animation bug
  • Fixed rare issue with dead corpses being cleared up prematurely
  • Skeleton Key will now work properly if player has no lockpicks in their inventory
  • Fixed rare issue with renaming enchanted weapons and armor
  • Fixed rare issue with dragons not properly giving souls after death
  • ESC button can now be used to exit menus (PC)
  • Fixed occasional mouse sensitivity issues (PC)
  • General functionality fixes related to remapping buttons and controls (PC)

Note that this patch is separate from a minor one released last week that properly tied the game’s PC executable to Steam. This had the side effect of removing a bunch of mods upon update and subsequently limiting one’s ability to tamper with the game, such as installing a third-party large address aware patch that enabled Skyrim to draw on more than just 2 GB of system RAM. (There is now a workaround for those who’d like to take full advantage of their PC’s hardware.)

This likely won't be the last Skyrim patch, and future DLC packs will likely come with their own bugs and hiccups. But this should improve the game for scores of players (that texture bug on the 360 is a big one) just in time for the holidays.

    I haven't seen anything about fixing the SLI issues or did I just miss it?

    You might want to try the nvidia beta drivers, they added a sli profile for skyrim.

    I'm running two 570 in SLI with no issues (didn't have any before changing driver either).

    Some of you need to to chill out lol. Sure there's lots of problems well guess what it's a MASSIVE game. . I fail to understand all the hate on the menu, I mean yeah it needs some fixing but the overall idea is pretty sleek and well done. I find it to be very fast/intuitive and don't believe it was designed solely for console users.

    Admittedly some of the bugs like the big PS3/XBOX ones are incusable, laughable really. Did they even play the game on PS3 lol? Patch is also a bit underwhelming expected some more fixes hope another one is on the way soon.

    +1 to the guy who said creation kit is out soon then we can rely on community patch which is 1000x better anyway regardless of game :p

    It was definitely designed for consoles, and rightfully so considering the market distribution. This is a non-argument. For you to say otherwise only eliminates your credibility on any other opinion you might have uttered, especially the part about "incusable."

    I don't know why PC Gamers are so hell bent on creating an image of being cry babies. Its saddening to say the least. It also baffles me that folks who claim to have respect Bethesda has just lost it because of this game. Odd.... I thought it was known that Bethesda releases buggy games. Fortunately I have not run into any of the said issues. Since I play this game with the controller, the interface is not a problem and works quite well.

    I noticed that you cant jump while sprinting, you cant shoot while jumping (arrows or spells), you cant jump while immediately in front of an object (like say a railing), and your running speed is about as slow as a normal games walk speed... your walk speed is about as fast as low crawling through mud or sand. I also noticed that if you are sneaking and hit someone while invisible they some times detect you (presumably because you get too close and touch them) obviously your sneak attack will fail but your guy wont stand up when you hit the stand up key and then the sprint key really quickly while trying to cast a spell (in my case invisibility). He ends up just standing there doing nothing but getting hit with his back to the enemy and you have to hit the keys all over again.

    There are numerous broken quests (pantaea's flute, some guy's drum, and someone else's lute to name a few) where you cant get rid of the item even though youve completed the quest. Other broken quests are like the galdurs amulet i think its called. when I went into the tomb to get the second piece I had already cleared the place from a previous quest and the fragment of the amulet wasnt there. there was an arrow pointing to the ground where I was supposed to get the amulet but it wasnt there. Then there's the stones of barenziah ... who thought it would be a good idea to make it so A) all of these 24 stones had to be found haphazardly with no help from anyone outside of the internet? and B) the one in the dark brotherhood can only be obtained on the first 2 missions they give you even though after the whole attack and subsequent burning of the place you can still get to the room where the stone was... so if you dont steal from the group of assassins the first time you walk into their den youre boned! Great idea bethesda! Then there were the NPCs constantly getting in the way of my arrows and then attacking me for shooting them... hey jackass dont cross the tube and that wont happen!

    Also what's the point of getting married in the game? I mean it wasnt as thought out as it was with mass effect where you spent the whole game cultivating a relationship with a character... my guy put on the amulet of mara and went home to whiterun and bang the first girl that he talks to wants to marry him. Then when I do marry her she sits at home supposedly running a shop of some kind and only says the same 4 things to me from then on. What's the point if all I can do is ask her about the shop and to cook me something and the other 2 options she said before we got married?

    All that being said it was still a really cool game and I played it for about 2 weeks straight for 12 or 15 hours a day (unemployment has its benefits)... got to level 63 and just finished the main quest a couple of days ago. Not really interested in the whole petty fight between the stormcloaks and the legion so Im pretty much done with the game now. I could go on more thieving missions and more assassination missions but that's hardly a reason to keep playing.
