The slow run continues for another week. The Pentium 4 line of processors showed minor changes in price this week. The 1.7GHz part fell $15 and can now be found for $335. The 1.5GHz model fell slightly to $233 and the 1.4GHz dropped $20 to $169. Expect an even faster 1.8GHz Pentium 4 very soon. The 1.4Ghz part offers decent performance for a price that rivals it's 1.0Ghz Pentium III cousin. We should note that investing in a new Pentium 4 not only involves buying a processor, but also an expensive i850 motherboard and RDRAM. For more pricing information on these items, check out our Weekly Memory & Motherboard Price Guide.

The Pentium III lineup saw some modest price fluctuations this week. The 1.0GHz part fell $13 to $174. The 933MHz processor dropped $8 this week, putting it at $160. The rest of the P3 line saw very little change.

A new Celeron has made it's way into the OEM market. The 850Mhz part is the second Celeron to utilize the 100MHz bus, as opposed to the 66MHz bus of the lower clocked processors. The introductory price of this chip is a little steep compared to the rest of the processors - $86. Expect this price to drop once vendors start receiving this chip in quantities. Our pick, the 800MHz part, fell $4 this week to $62. The 600Mhz part fell $5, putting it at $41.
