NVIDIA To Hold Special GeForce Livestream On May 6th at 6pm Pacific

NVIDIA has announced via their website and Twitter feed that the company will be holding a special GeForce livestream this week. The event be broadcast on NVIDIA’s Twitch channel.
NVIDIA has not announced what the event will be for, or any content details, for that matter. However given that it’s a GeForce event and that NVIDIA has already announced their first Pascal architecture GPU for the HPC market, a similar consumer announcement does seem to be the most likely candidate.

I hope it's got something to do with consumer Pascal. I've been interested in seeing what NV has coming in the mid- to low-end desktop GPU segment since the 9xx doesn't really have a low end as there really wasn't a point in doing a refresh of of the 7xx cards without having smaller transistors available. Unfortunately, if they do announce Pascal product details, they'll probably talk exclusively about their larger and more pointless top tier graphics cards as always. For once I'd like to see the GPU market release the more sensible volume products first. AMDs IGPs are competitive; but their current CPUs aren't leaving them to only the lowest end boxes. On the Intel side, they don't put largest size GPU on socketed desktop chips; and the soldered cpu with Iris pro is much more expensive than a basic i3 and an entry level Amd/nVidia GPU card.Even if Xen closes the CPU performance gap, you'll still have a large number of low knowledge consumers who "know" discrete cards are better than integrated graphics, and the BoxMart employee's will gladly sell them a more expensive computer.
Lastly, a cheap upgrade GPU can get another 2-3 years of use from a system at low quality settings the same way a $200/600 upgrade can extend the amount of time an existing system can keep playing at medium/high settings.

Intel's IGPs are competitive too. If you don't play games, an intel IGP will do. If you do play games, an AMD IGP will do for a few titles, but for most, you'll have to sacrifice IQ/resolution anyway.Murloc - Friday, May 6, 2016 - link
