Considering that Threadripper itself can mine XMR at a rate that is competitive with modern GPUs, I am surprised that they didn't go with AMD/X399 instead.
I don't know that I'd agree on that one considering the steep discounts that have been available lately. You can get the 1950X as low as $649 depending on where you get it from. The extra PCIE lanes would also come in handy for additional GPU slots.
I just haven't heard of anyone building a rig around that CPU specifically, as GPUs are versatile in being put to other things but CPUs are really only viable on Cryptonight coins. And while you can get extra lanes, I don't know of any X399 mining specific boards with the ability to run loads of GPUs off the back of it as well plus the extra cost of such a board if it were there.
If a 1950X can do 1.1KH/s tweaked and an RX Vega can do nearly 2KH/s, then if XMR or similar is what you want, the Vega is the better option.
Very interesting, although ideally the 8x "riserless" board would use 2x standard DDR4 memory slots instead of a single DDR4 SODIMM slot. The chassis & motherboard would also hopefully be made available as separate items, so that one could optionally install a more powerful CPU, for example. Designed so that it could potentially be used as a competently powerful workstation in the daytime, and for cryptomining after work hours.
"So you're a fan then?" ------------------------------ Oh YES! I'm a BIG fan of making EVERYTHING about Virtual Currency a Worldwide Criminal offense and placing heavy fine on any retailer accepting unregulated and/or uninsured virtual currencies of any sort
Biostar needs to die in a fire continuing to encourage GPU mining. Meanwhile, back in PC Gaming Master Race hell, no one can buy a goddamn GPU for a reasonable price. Biostar, there's a cliff over there... walk off it.
I can‘t be the only one in here who‘s LMFAOing about those ridiculous PR shots.
„Making money is so easy“. Yeah. I mean, if you‘re working for Biostar...and don‘t even get me started on the fact that this thing was released at least 12 months to late.
