Face ID made finger prints sorts obsolete. Ask anyone who has used a newer iPhone for a week or more. It's a godsend. No more fiddling with the finger print sensor. No more wiping your sweaty or wet thumb after trying and failing multiple times. Best of all, you just take the phone outta your pocket and look at the screen and it scans your face and unlocks it. After spending a year with the iPhone XS and now the Pixel 4, I'm sure face unlock will be the next flagship feature that'll trickle down to budget phones. Just a matter of time.
Unless they've come up with a way to make an under-display Face ID, I think I'll stick with fingerprint sensors and teardrop notches/pop-up cameras. Never had a problem with the rear sensor on my Samsung S8+, and even after experiencing face ID on my mom's 11 Pro I still wouldn't take a huge notch for something that's marginally more convenient at best
Qualcomm better have a damn good market proven, security tested fingerprint reader before they jump into the automotive market. I don't think I'd be comfortable attaching a fingerprint reader to my car unless a bug bounty turns up goose eggs. I don't need a moderately tech savvy thief lifting fingerprints off of the outside of my vehicle and then driving off with it.
Would be for identification or basic authentication rather. So have the key to get into the car, fingerprint to actually start it (plus use normal key in radius detection). Would help with e.g. Trusting kid with keys if they have to get something from the car, or for profiles like maybe tying Spotify login or what Bluetooth device to connect to.
Pass on fingerprint authentication. Its one of those things I can NEVER change about myself so once it gets compromised, security would be pretty much boned forever and if that method of authentication is used on an Internet connected system, you can safely bet that it is only a matter of time before it gets compromised.
If implemented correctly, your fingerprint data is never stored directly. It's more like a cryptographic version of your fingerprint. One phone's data on your fingerprint wouldn't (And really shouldn't) be the same. Just like a password on a website. If implemented correctly, and I've tested this for the fun of it, even using the same password on the same site can yield different hashes depending on the salt/pepper used, and the algorithm.
Correct - not to mention apps don't even get access to it. All they can do is trigger the system API to ask "Does this match?" and the Secure Enclave / Trusty TEE (iPhone / Android) system will verify and send back a Yes or No response.
If the Android OEMs apply their normal level of attention to detail to implementing this then you will probably be able to get it to unlock by shouting "THUMBS" at it loud enough.
Can someone help me set a ringtone on my samsung note 20. i download the ringtone on https://neyviaan.com. I changed the ringtone according to the instructions, but when someone calls it it still doesn't sound

I would argue the main issue with fingerprint sensors is their inability to detect anything but a pristinling clean fingerprint.milkywayer - Tuesday, December 31, 2019 - link

Rumor is they have it on the 2020 iphones.Chaser - Wednesday, January 1, 2020 - link
I like this concept. But I am disappointed with the S10+'s unlock. I wish everyone would go secure Face ID.StevoLincolnite - Tuesday, December 31, 2019 - link
Can't say I have had much issue with my Galaxy Note 10+.I am a firefighter, so my hands are often covered in dirt, dust and soot and the unlock rate is still quick and accurate.

Two thumbs will fit in a 20x30mm area? Maybe if it only detects half of each thumb.FunBunny2 - Monday, December 30, 2019 - link

The sensor is that big, but the detection area is wider. That box on the display has plenty of space for two thumbs.shabby - Monday, December 30, 2019 - link
Did they explain how that detection "methodology" works? I'm guessing it simply accepts partial half finger matches.boeush - Monday, December 30, 2019 - link
I'd guess the dual-finger scenario is more likely targeting index+middle-finger, than two thumbs - just based on purely ergonomic considerations...StormyParis - Monday, December 30, 2019 - link
I'm still unsure if this is noticeable compared to a sensor on the back.Drumsticks - Monday, December 30, 2019 - link

Why not just use an array of small sensors then? They can be spaced in between and the result will be the same if not a larger detection area.Ian Cutress - Monday, December 30, 2019 - link

*Correction. wouldn't and shouldn't be the same on another device... unless they used the exact same sensor and algorithms and whatnot.Devo2007 - Tuesday, December 31, 2019 - link
