Hire more news guys, and keep anandtech my one-stop place for tech news. I hope the other site does well of course, but I'm not interested in being redirected all over the internet and back just to read a news article.
I rely on anandtech, i trust anandtech. I think outsourcing your news is a horrible idea.
I want to see my news with capsule blurbs underneath the headline. That's what I liked about AT. Now I have to find a site that displays news the way I want to see it.
Quote: "so you'll see DT report on things that we can't here at AT because we're bound by NDAs. At the same time, we may scoop the DT folks every now and then ;)"
I like this. I miss what AnandTech was like before all the NDAs. It was great when Anand was not handcuffed and gaged as to what he could say.
I also like the fact that you made the log on easy.
I, like many others, am pretty dissappointed by this... I've always found AT news to be perfect... not too much (like slashdot), not too little, and an active but managable comments section with good insight, good humor, and a managable amount of content (again unlike slashdot). I'm sad to see it go.
By the way, I guess this means the whole new comment system that you worked so hard on for so long is basically trash now? AFAICT, the only place you can still see the comments is on this blog =P
It'd be great if the news could be available both on AT and on the new site. Alas, those things never happen, and we're always forced to move to something we like less in the interest of money. *sigh*
Our Press Release and Media Kit being distributed at CES2006 talks about our partnership with AnandTech. The Media Kit actually indicates that DT is AT's sister site.
There is mention of Anandtech on DailyTech. Also, notice the similarity in the logo of each site, notice the "Tech" name of each site. I like it, though I do wish it clicking a news link on Anandtech would open a new window/tab rather than taking me to the DailyTech site.
Well, I can say that is a surprise, but I hate that if I’m in Anandtech and click in a new, I get redirected to another website, I think that you should fix this is really annoying, now without the news I have no reason to visit Anandtech in daily bases, I didn’t like the site, but hope to get used to it soon.
The sites look rather different to each other at the moment, this is going to give me headaches with the navigation... Not a major flaw, but enough to make me for instance stop reading nearly so much of the news.
I think this will work out for the better. AnandTech started as a hardware review site and that's where its primary focus lay. Not to say that the news was ever poor on AnandTech; but now that there will be an entire site committed to the delivery of news, the quantity and quality should rise.
My only concern is how the 2 sites are integrated. Jumping out of AnandTech when I click on a news link isn't necessarily what I expect to happen, even if DailyTech is a partner. Perhaps there could be a Safari SnapBack-like feature for visitors redirected from AnandTech so they can jump directly back to the page they were reading when they were on AnandTech -- like a "Jump back to AnandTech" link or something.
Cheers, and good luck. Has it been 9 years already? I still have that Asus P2L97 motherboard you reviewed back in 1997!
Bah, no wonder my RSS feeds weren't updated today. Will this be fixed? Or will the News Channel feed forever be dead from now on and I'll have to use the DailyTech feed?
Also, as far as I can tell everyone who's complaining about their password being sold out apparently didn't listen. DailyTech authenticates you through AnandTech's DB meaning they don't see your password and they don't possess your password. Now what I wonder though is if DailyTech's new users get stored in their own DB or if accounts will always be shared between the 2 sites. That would mean AnandTech would have to maintain control of the user DB.
its your account on a FORUM. its not like they gave out your online banking password or anything of that sort. im sure plenty of people are going to cry about this. but the simple fact is, with any sort of a change, there will always be people that will moan and groan.
what they have done i see as the best solution. instead of having people to reregister...and who knows if someone else takes your current name from AT and pretends to post as you at DT. along with these, im sure there are many other reasons why they have decided to do what they did.
i doubt kris or anyone else running the website can just go ahead and look at your passwords. i have more faith in AT and anand then that. and until you're sure otherwise...maybe you should too.
I was wondering why the news looked so different when I checked the site this morning.
I hopped over to Dailytech, to read up more about the new company, and I noticed that there is no mention of their Anandtech root's anywhere on the website (not in the about section, where I would expect it).
Ok, Mr. Conspiracy nut. You obviously have no clue as to what happens with these things.
Notice how your msn/hotmail/whatever password works on so many sites because of "passport"?
Doesn't mean microsoft is selling/sharing your information to others to let them identify you, in fact it's completely the opposite.
By giving a site YOUR user name and YOUR password, YOU are providing them with the information, they then just verify/authenticate it with the proper servers (passport in microsoft example).
I doubt dailytech will have access to the anandtech password files, there's no need for them to. When someone logs in to their website, they first check there own files to see if the user is registered with them, if not then they ask the anandtech server if he/she is one of there's.
Similarly when someone registers they will check their own registry for duplication and then ask the anandtech site as well.
If you start getting spam from Dailytech, then yes you will have something to bitch about.
But hopefully somebody on the Anandtech team will chime in to appease your fears, so that you don't have to take my word for it.
Major difference - Passport tells you other sites will have access to/use this information. No where did Anandtech ever say other people/websites would have any kind of access to this information.
Hotmail started long before passport (as a non-MS company too), and was then automatically integrated into .net passport when that was rolled out.
For people who originally signed up with hotmail, there was no mention of information being shared sold to 3rd parties.
But what you can't seem to comprehend is that this doesn't involve divulging personal information between the websites.
If you login to dailytech with your AT name and pword, YOU are the one who is providing the information to them. They then go to AT and say "hey is the guy one of yours like he says he is"?. The authentication is done on the AT side, and all they say is yes/no.
Anand himself chimed in above, confirming what I said before.
I'm not sure if I/anyone can explain this better, so that you don't freak out for no reason at all. If i come across a decent wikipedia article that explains this I'll post it.
DailyTech does not have access to your password files, they are still stored on the AnandTech database. If you would like to login over there, the request is simply sent to the AnandTech db - not stored on any DT servers.
I know how much I have relied upon Anandtech for the latest "technology news" since 1997 or 1998 (been a long long time)... I will miss it terribly. The good news I suppose is that it is still the same 'ol crew... And quite possibly they can be more vocal in their opinions than they can on the review site. (Just speculation)
Best of luck to all of you in the Anandtech News department... hopefully this will be something for the better. Thank you all for all the news you provide on a daily basis. Best of luck... God speed... Beam me up Scotty...

Is the reason no mention of Anandtech on Daily Tech due to bad blood?Maybe the three guys left the site in a bitter dispute. Daily Tech can't use the Anandtech name and Anandtech gets to use Daily Tech for free?
Gotta be some reason three "online editors" forgot where they got their start.
They need to pay their respect.

Not really enjoying being sent off-site for the news. Maybe have some sort of "<< Back to AT" plugin at the top of the page, or something.npoe1 - Thursday, January 5, 2006 - link
