Unless AMD acknowledges that "they" provide the intel part also, this driver still won't install "out the box", at least not on AMD/Intel units like mine with the RAdeon 7690m xt and Intel 3000.
And After downloading the "new" mobility tool, it still gives me the "hardware not supported" box.
Also tried the update from within CCC and says my driver is up to date, oh yeah from Nov 2011?.
If you check the Intel driver properties under Device manager, you'll see it plainly states "provided by Advanced Micro Devices" So to have a working driver for us laptop users with switchable (Enduro) the driver package needs to include ALL parts to be installable.
I will however need to go ahead and download 12-11 and have it ready for when I download W8 later this week as the driver I have now I know won't work at all with it.
The plan is that going forward, you can get Intel's drivers from Intel and AMD's drivers from AMD, without worrying about getting a single monolithic driver. In theory at least. For 12.11 Beta3, using the Sony VAIO C, I just installed 12.11 over the original Sony drivers and that updated the AMD side (with some of the Enduro options not quite working). If you're going to use Windows 8, though, you'll be using non-HP driver either way is my guess.
Note that the 12.10 mobility driver utility will not download updated drivers on Enduro/switchable graphics notebooks. That's why you download the beta directly.
Well hell Jarred that would be a vast improvement over what we have now, to be able to utilize both drivers even if from different makers, one at a time though, as sometimes you might just have a AMD driver updated, and another the Intel, I doubt if both would be updated in tandem.
I have a guy on Leshcat's site now doing just that to see how it works on a setup like mine, installing the new Intel driver and than installing the 12-11, I await his "experiment" progress.
As for W8, yeah I haven't seen any driver updates posted yet to HP drivers page for my specific unit yet either, so I will most likely have to do the duel install thing or use this Leshcat combined mix just to start. man what a mess I got myself into going to a laptop, lol.
I just keep seeing NVIDIA in my future, smirks.....
So, I tried doing Windows 8 on the VAIO C. It's not looking good. Can I go back and install an old Win7 64-bit driver I wonder? Right now, it's the same as if you try a clean install of the latest Intel and AMD drivers on that platform (which is probably the same as with your HP): AMD's CCC will start, but you can't actually access the hardware AFAICT.
Then i extracted 12.9_sep4_unifl_pt05 with both intel drivers.
After that i have installed through device manager… select intel, update driver software and i have manually selected the .inf file inside the extracted ATI setup. Something like this, Packages\Drivers\Display\W86A_INF\C8146497.inf.
After that reboot.
If you want to install other intel driver do the same thing that i have explained.
PS: you dont need to unninstal/reinstal amd drivers after reboot you should have all good.
Check sonys support site. For my vaio sa (mux switch, similar gen and specs to your vaio), Sony has promised windows 8 driver availability when windows 8 launches. I don't know whether or not to take it at face value, but that should be it.
Just to confirm, I did manage to use the Leshcatlabs "hacked" drivers to get the Sony VAIO C working under WIndows 8 Pro 64-bit. It's not the nicest way of doing things, but it's better than not getting your dGPU! Grab them from here:
I assume they'll be updated with the 12.11 betas (or maybe those can install over the top of the Leshcat drivers--checking right now on that). I do get the "missing global dropdown" issue still, but that's livable at least.
Update: confirmed. On VAIO C (so HP Envy 15 as well), you can install the leshcat 12.9 release on Win8 and then install AMD's 12.11 Beta and get the latest drivers working that way.

Either way I am so done with AMD. Every time I give them another try, I get burnt, I need to learn my lesson.
And yes, you CAN driver sweep Intel GPU/AMD GPU drivers and install the complete 12.11 package and the Intel driver from May for HD 4000. They are both now working separately :)! I did it myself, and I am having no issues.
Note that Tranta is using a P150EM or P170EM with HD 7970M. In that case, you can clean out all drivers and install the latest and all goes well. The problem is with older laptops, as far as I can tell. Doing the exact same steps that I took with the P170EM results in a non-functional HD 6630M on the Sony VAIO C, and others have reported similar behavior with HP Envy 15. I'm going to try the steps Hoody posted above about manually installing drivers and see if I can get Win8 working... wish me luck!
However, realize that my steps may or may not work for you. Another user named DocOccam posted a list of steps as well, but they didn't work for some as well.
Keep trying it in different ways until it just works without BSODs. Using safe mode will probably be required at one point if you use Driver Fusion. The goal is to have both the complete 12.11 package installed and the separate Intel package installed. I have been able to play all of my games without issues, and performance has been stunning. Saints Row 3, Sleeping Dogs and Battlefield 3 all saw significant boosts in performance over stock drivers. I'm bummed GTA IV hasn't improved, but when the DX9 fixes are added there likely will be an improvement in GTA IV.
No, the Hotfix to my knowledge was never posted. AMD gave me a 600MB download for the Hotfix, with a separate 58MB download for the DX9 fix. Basically, they never did package the Hotfix for public use as far as I know.
And for Jarred, I am confused about your BF3 value at 1080p. Single player performance improved by 10-20 FPS on Ultra coming from the stock driver. I wonder if the performance gains are larger on Clevos.
It could be the section of the game where we test (the tank run on Rolling Thunder -- just start FRAPS when the tank begins moving and stop when the tank stops; don't shoot anything). I can retest if you'd like, though I'm not sure what else could have been "wrong" to cause the lower than expected score.
Okay, I retested and this time (after two runs), the best score was 40.8, so that's 1FPS faster than before. Still, it's a step down from the Hotfix and is consistently at the 39-41FPS mark in our test sequence.
You know what, your figure is right. You are testings with max MSAA, AA and AF. However, my performance gain is still real. I was playing with MSAA off, AA post on medium and AF at 4x. Performance on the stock driver was not too good at Ultra with those adjustments, but with 12.11 performance is much better.
The aliasing is barely noticeable on a 15" 1080p monitor, so I live with medium FXAA :) I can get a stable 50-70FPS range in single player with MSAA off, but I rarely go past 45FPS with MSAA at 4x. Not really worth it for me, but it is good that you and other websites test at complete max settings to make comparing GPUs easier and more honest.
Speaking of MSAA, many are reporting that when MSAA is maxed out in Max Payne 3, performance is the same as stock drivers (around 35FPS), but with MSAA off and all else on Ultra, Max Payne 3 can be ran at a solid 60FPS (huge improvement over stock drivers), just like BF3. Apparently maxed MSAA in games restricts the GPU to the point where any driver improvements wouldn't do much for performance.

Well I think it may be a mute point, here is what I got from AMD rep just now after sending him the info on this.
"This brought me to the Catalyst 12.10 download, and specifically that verification tool. I read the release notes, and it states that your particular graphics product is not compatible. I am very sorry, as I feel I have therefore mislead you in the past."
And this
"I read the release notes for Catalyst 12.11Beta, and it does not appear that your particular HD7670m XT graphics is supported either. I am trying to get confirmation on this for you."
So there it is...........
----------------------------------------------------------------- The info on my card is this:
Never trust tech support... they know only enough to point you to someone else at best. And obviously, they're not going to recommend people try unofficial drivers like LeshCatLabs stuff. I'm not sure why he thinks the 12.11 Beta doesn't support your card, though, as it says right in the release notes that 7000M (and 6000M and "5000M" -- Mobility Radeon 5000 if you prefer the official name) are supported.
" The following notebooks are not compatible with this release:
Any notebook launched after this driver release Toshiba notebooks (please contact the notebook OEM for driver support for these notebooks) Sony VAIO notebooks (please contact the notebook OEM for driver support for these notebooks) Panasonic notebooks (please contact the notebook OEM for driver support for these notebooks)"
From what it would appear, the newest 12.11 release yesterday, was kind of bit of a dud in terms of performance increase. In reviewing your test results, the new release had almost no impact on increasing FPS scores- especially at higher resolutions. From what I see, the older releases had more of an impact on performance. I would think that there would be a CLEAR improvement with each successive driver release each month or whenever they are released periodically, but there isn't one on this new release, because older driver releases fared better than most games. This is very disappointing to see.
Am I reading this right, or reading too much into it? Also, can we be certain that the Enduro mess is now cleaned up with this new release, because there is no way to know just from these disappointing results.
I'm not sure why you think the earlier drivers were better? There's only one instance where the initial driver outperforms the 12.11 Beta and 12.9 "Internal Hotfix", and I may have simply run Batman at the wrong settings in that case (e.g. maybe I forgot to enable 4xAA). Overall, the 12.9 Hotfix that was never released to the public is the fastest mobile driver for 7970M so far, but the 12.11 Beta is very close and is actually faster by a moderate amount in a few titles (BF3 at High, DiRT 3 at Ultra, and Civ5).
Generally speaking, while we'd love to see a steady improvement in performance with each new driver release, in practice we often see performance drop. I'm not sure why, but my guess is all the stuff being added, sometimes to fix bugs, ends up slowing down some areas. Look at the testing of GTX 680M with 295.62 vs. 306.97: http://www.anandtech.com/show/6369/avadirect-clevo... Most games are equal or slightly faster, but Skyrim is quite a bit slower at "Mainstream" and "Enthusiast", and Batman also shows a big drop at our "Enthusiast" settings. In the past six months, I've also seen pretty major fluctuations in Civ5 performance for NVIDIA on laptops.
And as for Enduro, this release shows AMD can improve performance and release a public driver for Enduro users, but it seems to be targeting 7970M mostly, perhaps 7800M as well, and everyone else is sort of hoping for the best. Older Enduro laptops still haven't received a driver that fully installs and works properly without any extra effort. Ideally, that's where Enduro ends up: if you put on a new copy of Windows 7 or 8, you just grab the latest Intel iGPU drivers, grab the latest AMD Mobility Catalyst drivers, install them separately and they work. That seems to be the status of 7970M at least, but not 6630M or 7670M. Hopefully that's while we're still getting the "Beta" label, and in the next month AMD really needs to make a fully functional WHQL driver for all of the other users, or Windows 8 upgrades will be in for a tough ride.
I've installed the 12.11 beta on my new-ish Trinity (A10-4600M) laptop, and at least 3dmark11 has substantially (~16%!) improved with newer drivers over the drivers the laptop came with (roughly Catalyst 12.5): - original drivers: P1148 3dmarks (1055 graphics score) - 12.9 beta: P1272 (1193 graphics) - 12.11 beta: P1317 (1228 graphics)
Since the machine was deliberately a "just-good-enough" choice, another 2-3 fps in Civ V would be a substantial improvement. Are other people seeing these kinds of gains? Do they hold up in real life?
Why are there people complaining about the results for this driver. Look at the graph! And the 12.9 hotfix is not the 12.9 beta. The 12.9 hotfix was never released to the public and is not an old driver. It included both the DX10/11 and DX 9 Enduro fixes.
1) Batman is the exception, but 12.11 is scoring 1FPS higher than the hotfix 2) BF3 Ultra performance is loads better on my end, but for some reason Jarred is seeing average results 3) 12.11 is the best for Civ 5...how horrible! 4) 12.11 is the best for Dirt 3...so terrible! 5) 12.11 is just below the hotfix in Skyrim, but better than 12.9 beta and 12.3...oh no 12.11 must suck now! 6) 12.11 is losing in Portal 2, 12.11 must suck! This has nothing to do with the fact that Portal 2 is a DX9 game and 12.11 doesn't include the DX9 fixes that will eventually be implemented!
And then you realize that this is only a benchmark of six games at 1080p. There are tons more games out there. As I have stated before, Saints Row 3 and Sleeping Dogs are performing much better. Play any other DX11 game and you will likely see a decent performance boost.
Maybe the problem is this: " 1. Download the the AMD 12.11 driver here: AMD Catalyst 2. Download the Intel HD 4000 15.26.12.64.2761 graphics driver: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...=3498&l... 3. Download Driver Fusion here: Driver Fusion - The Complete Driver Solution 4. Uninstall all AMD files through the Catalyst manager (you can access this by going to the Uninstall a Program section in Windows and selecting "Change" on the AMD option) 5. Restart, and install Driver Fusion 6. Restart in safe mode (type in msconfig in run, go to the boot tab, and select safe mode), run Driver Fusion and delete both AMD Driver and Intel Driver files 7. Restart in normal mode (uncheck safe mode in msconfig), install every component in the AMD 12.11 package 8. Restart in safe mode (you have to one more time or you will get a BSOD on normal startup), install the Intel HD 4000 8.15.26.12.64.2761 driver 9. Restart in normal mode and you will be good to go "
LOL - On this site we hear all the time how having more than one card named incorrectly is so confusing the companies should be shot - But in this case we get an insane HACKED TO HADES AND BACK install sequence then we are supposed to cheer the results ? HAHAHAHHAHA
Don't forget you also said just keep trying it in different ways until it somehow works with no BSOD...
Here we have the great AMD and their "nVidia equivalent" drivers. This is it bro, this is how it works.
Dude, it is a beta. BETA. A WHQL driver will not cause BSODs nor prevent overclocking, and AMD will release 11.12 in WHQL form within the next couple months. This is the greatest beta AMD has put out in the past year. The performance has improved significantly for many games. This driver is just a PREVIEW to the real, fully functioning deal.
Please, someone help me! Yesterday everything was working fine, i did all the installations methods until one worked. Today i turn on my computer, start to play battlefield 3, and the utilization problem is back... ?????? I dont know what to do, instaled the latest intel driver and a clean instal for the 12.11beta4... Everything is set to high performance on CCC.
I'm going to be sarcastic. Just wipe out your notebook and do a "clean install" and see if that "fixes the broken and late amd "kind of works" "enduro". There you are ! Spend a few days at it, after all the immense frustration and hacking and losing all your settings and wiping out your computer (a couple of times the learning curve can be steep - one small click and amd bsod kicks you where it counts!) , you MIGHT have hacked together an AMD pile that doesn't change when you turn off your computer then turn it back on. :-) AMD drivers roxxors !
Only it ain't a teacher you're crushing on. No that would be understandable. You are in love with a Corporation. I guess when you're insane... Corporations really are people. :/
Has nobody else experience problems with Switchable Graphics Settings crashing with no error message? If I open it from the desktop then the computer just appears to be working for a sec or two, and then nothing. If I go into it under Catalyst Control Center, the whole thing crashes with no error message. I have tried uninstalling, and re-installing. This started with the 12.9 beta, and I had hoped the next release would fix it, as I am now unable to make new stuff run on the dGPU! I have a Clevo 150EM with a 7970m.
I have to say the whole Catalyst Control Center has always seemed like a bloated mess to me, and I wish they just rewrote it...
LOL - it's so sad, and so expensive. Go to AMD they will tell you they had no idea it wasn't working, and that you're doing it wrong. Then they'll lock the help thread. I suggest get a lifetime supply of Verdetrol pills.

Well that guy reported back that that doesn't work, the new Intel driver doesn't work on this setup, but he did say that"The only drivers that work good with 12.11 are 8.15.10.2827 and 9.17.10.2843 both from 12.9_sep4_unifl_pt05."
What he means is that those are the 2 Intel drivers that seem to work with 12-11, that came out of this Leshcat's unified modded driver.
I assume he got them installed seperately from that package along with 12-11.

No, the Hotfix to my knowledge was never posted. AMD gave me a 600MB download for the Hotfix, with a separate 58MB download for the DX9 fix. Basically, they never did package the Hotfix for public use as far as I know.TrantaLocked - Tuesday, October 23, 2012 - link
And for Jarred, I am confused about your BF3 value at 1080p. Single player performance improved by 10-20 FPS on Ultra coming from the stock driver. I wonder if the performance gains are larger on Clevos.JarredWalton - Tuesday, October 23, 2012 - link
It could be the section of the game where we test (the tank run on Rolling Thunder -- just start FRAPS when the tank begins moving and stop when the tank stops; don't shoot anything). I can retest if you'd like, though I'm not sure what else could have been "wrong" to cause the lower than expected score.JarredWalton - Tuesday, October 23, 2012 - link
Okay, I retested and this time (after two runs), the best score was 40.8, so that's 1FPS faster than before. Still, it's a step down from the Hotfix and is consistently at the 39-41FPS mark in our test sequence.TrantaLocked - Tuesday, October 23, 2012 - link
You know what, your figure is right. You are testings with max MSAA, AA and AF. However, my performance gain is still real. I was playing with MSAA off, AA post on medium and AF at 4x. Performance on the stock driver was not too good at Ultra with those adjustments, but with 12.11 performance is much better.JarredWalton - Wednesday, October 24, 2012 - link
Yes, MSAA is painful in BF3 at otherwise max settings. If you don't mind the aliasing, going FXAA but disabling MSAA really helps.TrantaLocked - Thursday, October 25, 2012 - link
The aliasing is barely noticeable on a 15" 1080p monitor, so I live with medium FXAA :) I can get a stable 50-70FPS range in single player with MSAA off, but I rarely go past 45FPS with MSAA at 4x. Not really worth it for me, but it is good that you and other websites test at complete max settings to make comparing GPUs easier and more honest.Speaking of MSAA, many are reporting that when MSAA is maxed out in Max Payne 3, performance is the same as stock drivers (around 35FPS), but with MSAA off and all else on Ultra, Max Payne 3 can be ran at a solid 60FPS (huge improvement over stock drivers), just like BF3. Apparently maxed MSAA in games restricts the GPU to the point where any driver improvements wouldn't do much for performance.

Well I think it may be a mute point, here is what I got from AMD rep just now after sending him the info on this."This brought me to the Catalyst 12.10 download, and specifically that verification tool.

Never trust tech support... they know only enough to point you to someone else at best. And obviously, they're not going to recommend people try unofficial drivers like LeshCatLabs stuff. I'm not sure why he thinks the 12.11 Beta doesn't support your card, though, as it says right in the release notes that 7000M (and 6000M and "5000M" -- Mobility Radeon 5000 if you prefer the official name) are supported.CeriseCogburn - Friday, October 26, 2012 - link

From what it would appear, the newest 12.11 release yesterday, was kind of bit of a dud in terms of performance increase. In reviewing your test results, the new release had almost no impact on increasing FPS scores- especially at higher resolutions. From what I see, the older releases had more of an impact on performance.I would think that there would be a CLEAR improvement with each successive driver release each month or whenever they are released periodically, but there isn't one on this new release, because older driver releases fared better than most games.
This is very disappointing to see.
Am I reading this right, or reading too much into it?
Also, can we be certain that the Enduro mess is now cleaned up with this new release, because there is no way to know just from these disappointing results.
Your thoughts?
JarredWalton - Tuesday, October 23, 2012 - link
I'm not sure why you think the earlier drivers were better? There's only one instance where the initial driver outperforms the 12.11 Beta and 12.9 "Internal Hotfix", and I may have simply run Batman at the wrong settings in that case (e.g. maybe I forgot to enable 4xAA). Overall, the 12.9 Hotfix that was never released to the public is the fastest mobile driver for 7970M so far, but the 12.11 Beta is very close and is actually faster by a moderate amount in a few titles (BF3 at High, DiRT 3 at Ultra, and Civ5).Generally speaking, while we'd love to see a steady improvement in performance with each new driver release, in practice we often see performance drop.
Hopefully that's while we're still getting the "Beta" label, and in the next month AMD really needs to make a fully functional WHQL driver for all of the other users, or Windows 8 upgrades will be in for a tough ride.
bks - Tuesday, October 23, 2012 - link
I've installed the 12.11 beta on my new-ish Trinity (A10-4600M) laptop, and at least 3dmark11 has substantially (~16%!) improved with newer drivers over the drivers the laptop came with (roughly Catalyst 12.5):- original drivers: P1148 3dmarks (1055 graphics score)
- 12.9 beta: P1272 (1193 graphics)
- 12.11 beta: P1317 (1228 graphics)
Since the machine was deliberately a "just-good-enough" choice, another 2-3 fps in Civ V would be a substantial improvement. Are other people seeing these kinds of gains? Do they hold up in real life?
TrantaLocked - Tuesday, October 23, 2012 - link
Why are there people complaining about the results for this driver. Look at the graph! And the 12.9 hotfix is not the 12.9 beta. The 12.9 hotfix was never released to the public and is not an old driver. It included both the DX10/11 and DX 9 Enduro fixes.1) Batman is the exception, but 12.11 is scoring 1FPS higher than the hotfix
2) BF3 Ultra performance is loads better on my end, but for some reason Jarred is seeing average results
3) 12.11 is the best for Civ 5...how horrible!

Maybe the problem is this:"
1. Download the the AMD 12.11 driver here: AMD Catalyst
2. Download the Intel HD 4000 15.26.12.64.2761 graphics driver: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...=3498&l...
3. Download Driver Fusion here: Driver Fusion - The Complete Driver Solution
4. Uninstall all AMD files through the Catalyst manager (you can access this by going to the Uninstall a Program section in Windows and selecting "Change" on the AMD option)
5. Restart, and install Driver Fusion
6. Restart in safe mode (type in msconfig in run, go to the boot tab, and select safe mode), run Driver Fusion and delete both AMD Driver and Intel Driver files
7. Restart in normal mode (uncheck safe mode in msconfig), install every component in the AMD 12.11 package
8. Restart in safe mode (you have to one more time or you will get a BSOD on normal startup), install the Intel HD 4000 8.15.26.12.64.2761 driver
9. Restart in normal mode and you will be good to go "
LOL - On this site we hear all the time how having more than one card named incorrectly is so confusing the companies should be shot -
But in this case we get an insane HACKED TO HADES AND BACK install sequence then we are supposed to cheer the results ?
HAHAHAHHAHA
Don't forget you also said just keep trying it in different ways until it somehow works with no BSOD...
Here we have the great AMD and their "nVidia equivalent" drivers.
This is it bro, this is how it works.
CeriseCogburn - Friday, October 26, 2012 - link
PS - I read the 16 pages at the notebook forum and here's another reason why everyone is complaining....AFTER HACKING IN THE INSTALL WITH THE NEW DRIVER:
OVERLCLOCKING NO LONGER WORKS AND RESULTS IN AN INSTANT BSOD.
LOL
So, after all the fuss, slower than before. Not a single megahertz can be overclocked.
Wow, great job amd !
TrantaLocked - Saturday, October 27, 2012 - link
Dude, it is a beta. BETA. A WHQL driver will not cause BSODs nor prevent overclocking, and AMD will release 11.12 in WHQL form within the next couple months. This is the greatest beta AMD has put out in the past year. The performance has improved significantly for many games. This driver is just a PREVIEW to the real, fully functioning deal.TheElMoIsEviL - Monday, October 29, 2012 - link

Everything is set to high performance on CCC.CeriseCogburn - Friday, October 26, 2012 - link
I'm going to be sarcastic.Just wipe out your notebook and do a "clean install" and see if that "fixes the broken and late amd "kind of works" "enduro".
:-)
AMD drivers roxxors !

Has nobody else experience problems with Switchable Graphics Settings crashing with no error message? If I open it from the desktop then the computer just appears to be working for a sec or two, and then nothing. If I go into it under Catalyst Control Center, the whole thing crashes with no error message.I have tried uninstalling, and re-installing.

LOL - it's so sad, and so expensive.Go to AMD they will tell you they had no idea it wasn't working, and that you're doing it wrong. Then they'll lock the help thread.
I suggest get a lifetime supply of Verdetrol pills.
