NVIDIA has posted a new beta driver from their 304 family of drivers, version number 304.79.

The biggest change with 304.79 is that NVIDIA has officially unified their Windows 8 and Win7/Vista drivers into a single driver, which means Windows 8 is now on the same driver update schedule as the rest of the Windows 6.x family. This driver also enables official support for NVIDIA's new TXAA anti-aliasing mode (though no games currently support it), and fixes several issues including a hardware cursor issue that was prevelent in several MMOs.

New in 304.79 Drivers:

  • Adds support for NVIDIA TXAA
    • NVIDIA TXAA is new film-style anti-aliasing technique designed specifically to reduce temporal aliasing (crawling and flickering in motion) through a combination of hardware AA, custom CG film style AA resolve, and a temporal filter.
    • The Secret World is the first game to support TXAA (support will be enabled in an upcoming patch)..
    • TXAA is supported on GeForce GTX 600-series Kepler-based GPUs.

Key Fixes

  • Fixed a compatibility issue with Civilization V and GeForce 400/500 series GPUs
  • Fixed instances of flickering or missing mouse cursor when hardware cursor is enabled (reported with Aion, World of Warcraft, Eve Online and others).
  • Fixed instances of very low frame rates in Deus Ex: Human Revolution (DX11).
  • Fixed an issue that caused a PC reboot instead of a PC shut down.
  • Fixed an issue that led to a black screen after driver installation.
  • Power management mode settings now persist across driver overinstalls.

    For Windows 7, 64bit you can use my modified .inf here, just copy the file to DisplayDriver/304.79/Win8_64/English/Display.Driver
    (called Win8, even though it is actually Win7, probably a typo in the NVIDIA driver)

    In short, open the nv_disp.inf in the Display.Driver folder and then you need to add this line to the [NVIDIA_SetB_Devices.NTamd64.6.0] section (and also [NVIDIA_SetB_Devices.NTamd64.6.1] and [NVIDIA_SetB_Devices.NTamd64.6.2]

    and this one to the [String] section:

    thanks for your help!!

    although, 2 things happened:

    1) i tried reinstalling win7-64bit, and the bootcamp drivers were able to install correctly this time!! so weird! the drivers were of version 296.49.

    2) when i extract the notebook beta 304.79 drivers, i don't have an English directory, but the International instead. also, in the Display.Driver directory, there's no nv_disp.ini, but an nv_disp.cat

    what to do?!

    Nvidia, producer of technology for games, ahead of the curve, gets 'er done, and then will HELP the game makers implement.

    That contrasts with the sad state of amd cards and their drivers. Amd went awol and off the farm and achieved totally hypocrisy as they hacked opencl into a proprietary winzip implementation so they could claim just one thing they have done for "compute" for end users, though I know nobody who uses winzip in this day and age - since so many OPEN SOURCE free alternatives are readily available and preferred, not to mention the Windows XP Vista 7 shell abilities for unzipping...

    nVidia, card support BACK to the 6 series - absolutely trouncing amd's no where near non equivalent.

    Since this website likes posting blank pic areas for nVidia related news, two in a row now, maybe they should just make up a big #1 sign and put it in the empty pic slot above the last several nVidia gpu postings here.

    Windows implemented an elaborate, segment-based, software virtual memory scheme, which allowed it to run applications larger than available memory code segments and resources were swapped in and thrown away when memory became scarce, and data segments moved in memory when a given application had relinquished processor control.
